What Hazrat ‘Umar Rode at the Conquest of Jerusalem
Question
During his caliphate, Hazrat ‘Umar al-Faruq ﵁ arrived at the court of a certain Christian king; it was his servant’s turn to ride while he himself walked on foot — was it a donkey he was riding, or something else?
Answer
This event does not concern arriving at the court of a Christian [king] — it concerns the conquest of Jerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis). On that occasion he rode a camel: on one stage the servant walked on foot while Hazrat ‘Umar al-Faruq rode, and on another stage the servant rode while Hazrat ‘Umar walked on foot.
