The Purity of the Prophet's Blood
Question
It is [related] in the noble hadith — which the respected Shaykh al-Hadith Hazrat Mawlana Zakariyya also related in “Hikayat-i Sahaba” (“Stories of the Companions”) — that a Companion drank the blood of the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said regarding this: “Whoever’s body my blood has entered, the Fire of Hell is forbidden to him.” An objection is raised against this: that the prohibition of blood is stated in the Qur’an — so why, then, did he ﷺ not reproach him for drinking it, but rather gave him glad tidings?
Answer
Qadi ‘Iyad narrated this in “Kitab al-Shifa”; it is possible that the blessed blood of the noble Prophet ﷺ was pure (tahir), just as the account of drinking his urine has been narrated by al-Daraqutni and others. It is also possible that Allah, the Pure, changed the very nature (mahiyya) of it, as is the case with musk.
