Was Sadaqa Forbidden for the Prophet?
Question
Zayd says: whether sadaqa is obligatory (fard) or voluntary (nafl), it was forbidden for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to eat it. And Bakr says: it was permissible (halal) for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to eat voluntary sadaqa.
Answer
The hadith that Bakr has cited as proof for his claim does not fully apply here: the meat’s status as sadaqa came to an end once it reached Hazrat Barira ﵂ herself; from Hazrat Barira ﵂ it was then presented to his noble service as a hadiya (gift), not as sadaqa.
