The ruling on three talaqs

Question

In a public gathering Zayd uttered the words of talaq to his wife three times in this way: “I have given my wife talaq, given talaq, given talaq” (“میں نے اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دے دی، طلاق دی، طلاق دی”), and said to the people of the gathering: “Go and inform our wife of the talaq.” Has talaq taken effect in this case, or is it necessary that the wife hear it herself with her own ears? And if talaq has taken effect, which one?

Answer

It is not necessary for the wife to hear it. Without doubt a major (mughallaza) divorce has taken effect; now, without halala, the marital relationship is haram.
