The ruling on three talaqs before the bride’s send-off to her husband’s home

Question

The question is that a Muslim named ‘Abd al-Karim had his nikah performed in the village of Dah; the bride’s send-off to her husband’s home has not yet taken place, and a period of one year has passed. After that, owing to displeasure, he abandoned that match and went elsewhere to seek a match. There the girl’s family asked: “Your nikah has already been performed in the village of Dah; until you give them talaq, how can we give you a match?

Answer

If a man gives talaq with three words to a woman with whom her husband has not had intercourse, only one talaq takes effect; the second and third do not. For example, if he says: “I have given talaq, I have given talaq,” then by saying this only one talaq will take effect, and a renewed nikah without halala will be valid.
