The Ruling on Clothing Washed with Petrol
Question
(1) Sherwanis (long buttoned coats for men) of warm woollen fabrics — Terylene, Terry-cotton, Terry-wool (in which a cotton-wadding lining is placed) — are washed in petrol, since washing with water ruins them. In the laundries of big cities there are vats: petrol is poured into them once, and twenty-five or fifty garments — as many as will fit — are put in at the same time and cleaned by machine.
Answer
(1) It will not be deemed impure, unless a trace of the impurity appears in it. (2) If no trace of the impurity remains in it, it will be called pure, because petrol removes [impurity] more effectively than water.
