How to Purify a Well in Which an Animal Has Died and Decomposed
Question
If an animal dies and decomposes inside a well, then according to the position of Imam Muhammad ﵀ the well becomes pure by drawing out three hundred buckets of water. The wells of our town hold about eight hundred buckets of water. In such a situation, can drawing out three hundred buckets of water be sufficient? Or is it necessary to draw out all the water — given that slackness has also arisen among the people?
Answer
The basic principle is that it is necessary to draw out all the water. If the water does not run out but keeps welling up, then the opinion of two upright ('adl), experienced people should be obtained: whatever quantity of water they state is in that well, that amount should be drawn out.
