The Ruling on the Jhelum River
Question
The Jhelum River flows constantly, and the filth of the whole city is thrown into this river, because of which its colour, smell and taste have all changed. May its water be used or not?
Answer
Water in which the taste, colour and smell of impurity are present is impure (najis), even if it is abundant and flowing (and so it is in al-Durr al-Mukhtar).
