For which compelling reasons may a mu'takif leave the mosque?
Question
In some situations a mu'takif has to leave the mosque. How will the emphasized sunna be fulfilled in these situations? The mu'takif died; went insane; was taken away by the police; a fire broke out in the mosque; rioting (fasad) broke out; he fled the mosque in fear for his life; he fell ill; his court hearing came up; his wife or child died.
Answer
If i'tikaf is arranged in every mosque and every neighbourhood and one person meets with such an incident, the i'tikaf of the rest will be complete and the communal sunna will be fulfilled. If, because of a fire in the mosque or rioting, he left it and went immediately to another mosque, his i'tikaf is not invalidated (fasid).
