A mu'takif should not go outside the mosque

Question

If the courtyard is regarded as being outside the mosque, may the mu'takif go out to pray Tarawih or not? The questioner: Ghulam Hajji Yusuf, Tarkesar, Surat district.

Answer

Since congregation (jama'a) is not held in the roofed part, i'tikaf there is not valid, because in such a situation he will have to go outside for the congregation. I'tikaf should be performed in a mosque where congregation is held, so that there is no need to go outside for the congregation.
