What should a mu'takif do if the mosque leaks in the rain?
Question
The mosque leaks terribly in the rain, so that even praying is difficult, and people have no concern about getting it repaired. The adhan and the prayer do take place, but even when it is not raining heavily, it is hard for the mu'takif to sit for an hour or two, let alone sleep. What is the ruling?
Answer
The corrective remedy is to have the roof repaired and to arrange i'tikaf in every mosque and every neighbourhood. If there is no room for i'tikaf in the mosque in question, he should move to another mosque; this is permitted when there is a valid excuse ('udhr).
