Smoking bidis during i'tikaf

Question

(1) Is it permissible, in the state of i'tikaf, to smoke a bidi (a thin Indian leaf-rolled cigarette) inside the mosque or not? (2) If it is permissible, is it permissible with dislike (karaha) or without dislike? (3) Before this the respected Mufti has already given a fatwa that at the time of relieving oneself one should smoke the bidi and the like, clean the mouth thoroughly with the miswak and enter the mosque.

Answer

(1) It is prohibited. (2) It is makruh tahrimi. (3) He must by no means smoke in the mosque. Since he has given up all things he desires, let him be patient with this as well; the purpose of i'tikaf is precisely that the habit of patience should develop as much as possible.
