Passing Wind While in I'tikaf

Question

I have an ailment of passing wind; the wind comes out both with sound and without sound. May I perform i'tikaf in this condition? And if in this settlement there is no one other than such a person to sit in the i'tikaf that is a sunna 'ala al-kifaya (a sunna discharged for all when some perform it), should he perform i'tikaf even then or not?

Answer

That which causes harm to humans also causes harm to the angels. Committing hadath in the mosque is makruh. One whose condition is such that he has no relief from wind should, out of respect for the mosque, be cautious about i'tikaf, especially when someone else is present who will perform i'tikaf.
