Leaving i'tikaf to wash the deceased; making up (qada) a broken sunna i'tikaf for women
Question
I entered i'tikaf on the 20th of blessed Ramadan. On the 22nd of blessed Ramadan, at 11 o'clock in the day, my niece (my brother's daughter) passed away, and I went to my brother's house, which is a few gaz (a unit of length, about a yard, ≈ 0.9 m) away; I washed my niece, dressed her in the shroud and so on, and when the funeral procession (janaza) had left the house I came back to my own house and entered i'tikaf again.
Answer
Going there upon the death of your niece, performing the washing and shrouding, and urging those people to patience is a matter of great reward and recompense; however, leaving i'tikaf is not correct even for this purpose.
