Harsh Words About Those Who Do Not Fast

Question

On the day of Eid, before leading the prayer, the respected scholar reviled those who had not fasted and made no mention of the prayer. After the prayer the respected scholar said: “I made a mistake, for the prayer of those who fasted will be makruh. It is our mistake that we did not make the man who had not fasted stand in the back row, because these people did not fast; throughout the fast they ate pork.”

Answer

Fasting is fard and prayer is fard as well. If on some occasion fasting was spoken about and prayer was not, there is no harm in that. If in the prayer those who fasted are in the back row and those who did not fast are in the front row, this does not make the prayer of those who fasted makruh.
