The Rule of Fasting Where the Day Lasts Eighteen Hours
Question
In places where the day lasts more than eighteen hours and the night is six hours or less (and sometimes the reverse) — is the fast observed according to the duration of the local day, or is some other calculation applied?
Answer
The local inhabitants, by their natural constitution, are generally able to endure such a long day; accordingly, their local day is the measure to be used, and there is no need for any alternative calculation — as stated in Majmu'at al-Fatawa, p. 696, vol. 1.
