Du‘a for Long Life

Question

A pious elder made du‘a for me: “May Allah the Pure lengthen your life.” Will Allah the Pure then increase my life-span? For I have heard that Allah has written down the life-span of every human being, and there can be no decrease or increase in it.

Answer

Even if in reality there is no lengthening of life, accomplishing more work of the religion within one’s life is also baraka (blessing), and that is a kind of lengthening of life.
