The Benefits of Du‘a and the Meaning of Its Acceptance

Question

We have been commanded to make du‘a. I ask you: does anything really come of du‘a? For a long time I have been begging for my wife’s health, but so far without success. I have supplicated in every manner I knew — in the last part of the night and in other ways I could learn of — but nothing has come of it. For a long time I have been making du‘a to be able to pay off the mahr debt, but no means of paying it has appeared. “Ah, how many hopes have turned to dust!

Answer

Du‘a is commanded, and its acceptance has been promised. Even those du‘as which in this world outwardly produced no result are not wasted: on the Day of Resurrection such du‘as will be shown, and it will be said that their recompense is these ranks and blessings of Paradise.
