Does a woman pray in full (itmam) or shorten (qasr) at her parents’ home?
Question
If a woman’s parental home lies at the travel distance, will the woman pray in full (itmam) at her parental home, or shorten (qasr)? Given that Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”) gives the fatwa of itmam, which fatwa is reliable, and how did a contradiction arise between the two fatwas?
Answer
After the wedding [the woman] comes to her husband’s house for one day; this coming is temporary: when she goes to her parental home she will pray in full (itmam). Then, when she comes to her husband’s house for permanent residence — in that state, if she goes to her parental home temporarily, for less than fifteen days, she will shorten (qasr).
