When the original homeland (watan asli) is annulled

Question

Zayd’s original homeland (watan asli) is Mudhol. For certain reasons he left Mudhol and came with his parents to settle in Nizamabad, although Zayd also has a house in Mudhol and his ties are also with Mudhol. Now, on getting a job, Zayd comes to Hyderabad, while his parents reside in Nizamabad. If Zayd now goes to Nizamabad to meet his parents and goes to his ancestral homeland Mudhol, will Zayd be called a traveller? Will he have to perform the shortened prayer (qasr) or will he pray the full prayer?

Answer

Mudhol is his original homeland (watan asli): as long as he has not entirely abandoned its status as homeland (by selling the house and so on, or giving it to someone) and made some other place his permanent homeland, its status as homeland will not end. On arriving there he will be required to pray the full prayer, whether he arrives from far or from near.
