The imam performed sajda al-sahw on the supposition of an oversight

Question

(1) If a munfarid or an imam, on the basis of his own supposition, performed sajda al-sahw, and after finishing [the prayer] it became known that sajda al-sahw had not been wajib, will the prayer in such a case be repeated (i‘ada) or not? And if it is to be repeated, is that at the level of fard or at the level of wajib? The following texts indicate that there is no repetition. These are the juristic texts: [ar]وَلَوْ ظَنَّ الْإِمَامُ السَّهْوَ فَسَجَدَ لَهُ فَتَابَعَهُ (أَيِ الْمَسْبُوقُ)

Answer

[If] a person gave the salam in the supposition that sajda al-sahw was due from him, and did not intend by the salam to exit the prayer — that is, did not make this salam a salam that terminates the prayer — then his intention will be relied upon, and this salam will not be deemed a salam terminating the prayer. A precedent (nazira)
