Sajda al-sahw for delaying the sajda al-tilawa

Question

In tarawih a hafiz of the Qur’an recited a verse of prostration and did not prostrate at that point, but prostrated together with the followers after one or two ruku‘s. Is [such a] Qur’anic prostration valid or not? [And if] he prostrated together with the followers after the salam, is it valid or not? If he performs sajda al-sahw, will [the obligation] be discharged or not?

Answer

In the case asked about, the prostration has been discharged from his responsibility, but because of the delay, sajda al-sahw becomes wajib in such a case. And the prostration that becomes wajib on the imam because of recitation during the prayer may not be performed outside the prayer; rather it should be performed within the prayer itself.
