How to make up the portion of the Qur’an missed in tarawih

Question

If a person misses the tarawih for two to four days in which the Qur’an was being recited, how should he arrange to pray so that the order is preserved? For when the hafiz behind whom he prays leads the tarawih a second time, the hafiz’s recitation of the Qur’an will be nafl, while [the prayer] of the follower (muqtadi) will be sunna.

Answer

Let him ask his imam to lead sixteen [rak‘as of] tarawih on some night, reciting in them as much as he always recited in twenty; and in the remaining four rak‘as let someone else lead [the prayer] with short suras; that person and the imam who led the sixteen should make the intention of nafl in those four.
