Illuminations at the Khatm of the Qur’an

Question

Some people, with regard to the khatm of the Qur’an in tarawih, cite the example that in the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ an instant (?) and abundant illumination is made with chandeliers, lanterns and candles: if this is impermissible, why is it not forbidden, even though great and eminent scholars are present in Makka and Madina? Does this electric lighting in the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ take place on the day of the khatm of the Qur’an or always, and what is the reason for such abundant illumination?

Answer

The claim that it has not been forbidden is wrong. See in the book “al-Madkhal” (vol. 2, p. 302) how severely it has been forbidden; but the wealthy and the people of bid‘a (innovation in religion) pay little heed to the people of knowledge and the people of truth.
