Tarawih with “Alam tara kayfa” in place of a khatm

Question

Can the last ten suras of the Glorious Qur’an be regarded in the tarawih prayer as a constructive (hukmi) khatm or not? And does such a constructive khatm have any basis?

Answer

Performing tarawih is an independent sunna, and reciting the whole noble Qur’an in it at least once is [also] an independent sunna: [ar]التراويح سنة مؤكدة للرجال والنساء[/ar] “Tarawih is an emphasized sunna for men and women” (“al-Khaniyya”, vol. 1, p. 269). [ar]والختم مرة سنة، مرتين فضيلة، وثلاثًا أفضل، ولا يترك الختم لكسل القوم. قال الشامي (ص ٤٧٤ ج ١)
