Bismillah before Every Sura
Question
‘Abdullah recited the Qur’an in tarawih in such a way that before every sura he recited “Bismillah” aloud, and when he reached Surat al-Duha he pronounced takbirs after every sura up to al-Nas. When he was asked, he said: “Although I am a Hanafi by madhhab, in qira’a I am a follower of the imam whose reading I recite; their method is exactly this, and the imams of qira’a have mentioned it in their works.
Answer
Whoever recites the whole Qur’an in tarawih should recite “Bismillah” aloud at the beginning of some one sura; otherwise the sunna of completing the Qur’an (khatm) will not be fulfilled. If he recites it quietly, the Qur’an will not be complete for the muqtadis (followers)
