Salat al-tasbih in congregation
Question
(1) Is it correct to pray salat al-tasbih in congregation or not, when the purpose of the one leading it is only the insistence of the muqtadis, for the sake of teaching and [learning] the method? (2) If the second alternative is meant, to what extent are the imam and the muqtadis committing a sin? (3) Is the salat al-tasbih of the imam and the muqtadi valid or not, given that “al-Durr al-Mukhtar” contains the phrase “السنة نافلة” (?)?
Answer
(1) Salat al-tasbih in congregation is neither transmitted nor legislated. (2) If it is done with iltizam (making it a binding practice), it is makruh. (3) It will be [valid] with karaha. (4) If they hold its congregation considering it [a source of] reward, then it is both a bid‘a and makruh.
