The method of performing salat al-tasbih

What is the detailed method of salat al-tasbih: the number of tasbihs, the complete procedure, and at which places how many tasbihs should be recited?

Answer

Having made the niyya for four rak‘as, one first recites “Subhanaka Allahumma” (the thana’), then fifteen times: [ar]سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ[/ar] “Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest”; then, after reciting al-Hamd (Surat al-Fatiha)
