The tahajjud prayer in congregation on the Night of Bara’a
Question
May the tahajjud prayer be performed in congregation on the Night of Bara’a after announcing [it], with the aim that those who do not pray may, at least on this blessed night, join in and become deserving of reward? If a tahajjud congregation is held, what is the ruling?
Answer
Doing so is makruh and prohibited. Those who do not pray should be called (tabligh) and firmly urged to be regular in prayer. To tolerate the abandonment of a fard and to invite people to commit a makruh act is neither wise nor permitted by the Shari‘a. Gathering for worship on this night is also prohibited. So it is in “Maraqi al-Falah”.
