The Time of the Sunna of Fajr: Performance on Time and Make-Up

Question

Is the time of the sunna of Fajr before the fard or after it? Should one pray the sunna first or not?

Answer

The sunna of Fajr should be prayed before the fard. If there was no time, it is not to be prayed before sunrise; rather, one should pray it when the sun has risen high, but its qada’ is not obligatory; rather, [in this case] it is non-emphasized (ghayr mu’akkada).
