Reciting the tashahhud in the qunut of witr

Question

If, in witr, the tashahhud was recited by mistake instead of the qunut supplication, or a few verses of the Holy Qur'an were recited, will the witr prayer be valid or not? And will sajda al-sahw (the prostration of forgetfulness) be needed or not?

Answer

In this case sajda al-sahw is not wajib. No particular supplication is required for the qunut such that leaving it would make sajda al-sahw necessary or render the prayer fasid (invalid). The tashahhud, too, contains a kind of supplication, which can suffice for the qunut.
