Raising the Hands for the Qunut and Saying “Subhan al-Malik al-Quddus” after the Witr
Question
What is the reason for raising the hands in the witr? And why do they say “Subbuhun Quddus” aloud — or should one say it quietly?
Answer
In the witr there is a transition from one wajib to another wajib; that is why the hands are raised for the qunut. Saying “Subhan al-Malik al-Quddus” (سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ) three times after the witr and raising the voice the third time is established from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
