Reciting with the assimilation (idgham) of dal into dad
Question
A certain person, in a fard prayer, makes a stop (waqf) at “وَمَنْ يَتَبَدَّلِ الْكُفْرَ بِالْإِيمَانِ” and begins with the following word “فَقَدْ ضَلَّ” (Surah al-Baqara, 2:108), and he also assimilates (makes idgham of) the dal of “فقد” into the dad. Does doing this cause a deficiency in the prayer or not? And Imam al-Jazari ﵀ says: “وغيرها ثم قبيح وله” (“and the rest… is bad, and it has…” (?)). That is all; wa-s-salam.
Answer
No invalidity (fasad) comes to the prayer from this — neither from this stop nor from this idgham. However, one should not stop at such a place by choice. This is also what al-Jazari means.
