Praying with a picture, or bidis and cigarettes, in one’s pocket
Question
A waist-wrap of the “Sher” brand, which bears the image of a lion; and those who pray with their own photograph in their pocket and also keep banknotes in their pocket, which bear the image of “Ashoka” — is the prayer valid with all of this or not? And will the prayer be valid with bidis (thin Indian cigarettes rolled in a leaf) and cigarettes, which are an intoxicating thing, kept in the pocket?
Answer
If there is a lion or any other picture on the waist-wrap and the like, it should be washed out and removed, and only then should the waist-wrap and the like be used. Having a photograph taken is itself not permissible; it should not be kept in the pocket. Bringing bidis, cigarettes and similar foul-smelling things into the mosque is forbidden.
