Prayer in a sari

Question

Here it is not the custom among women to wear a kurta (a long loose shirt) and trousers; they tie a sari over a long full skirt, and no other garment of any kind is worn underneath. In this case, will their prayer be discharged, or will they have to wear trousers or some such garment under the sari?

Answer

If the long skirt and the sari are such that the body is not visible through them, their prayer will be discharged, whether there are trousers underneath or not; otherwise, in a state of exposure, the prayer will not be valid. For covering the 'awra is fard, and it is fard for a woman in prayer to cover the whole body except the face, both hands and both feet.
