Lengthening the recitation in ‘isha’
Question
What is the ruling on lengthening the recitation in the ‘isha’ prayer to the measure of three or four ruku‘s (sections of the Qur’an), especially in a situation where the worshippers generally complain about this kind of long recitation? Explain, and be rewarded.
Answer
In the ‘isha’ prayer it is sunna (masnun) and mustahabb to recite the medium suras of the mufassal, that is, the intermediate suras from Surat al-Buruj to Lam yakun. If the muqtadis desire it, a longer recitation than that is also permissible.
