Reciting somewhat less than a whole sura in the prayer
Question
Is it established from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he recited only suras in the prayer, or is it somewhere established that he also recited different [portions], that is, one ruku‘ from one sura and another ruku‘ from another sura?
Answer
It is established from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ both that he recited a whole sura in one rak‘a and that he recited less than one sura. In Sahih al-Bukhari (vol. 1, p. 106) it is stated: [ar]عن عبد الله بن السائب: قرأ النبي ﷺ «المؤمنون»
