Joining the last word of the recitation to the takbir of ruku‘
Question
The imam, after Surat al-Fatiha, does not pause (waqf) on the last word of the sura or verse, but joins it (wasl) to “Allahu akbar” and goes into ruku‘ — for example: [ar]وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَر[/ar] “…and Allah is the One whose help is sought against what you describe” (Surah Yusuf, 12:18) — “Allah is Greatest.” Is this in accordance with the sunna or not?
Answer
If the last word ends in praise (thana’), then joining it to the takbir of ruku‘ is better (awla); if that is not the case, then it is better to pause and [then] say the takbir.
