By How Many Extra Verses in the Second Rak‘a the Prayer Becomes Makruh
Question
By how many verses must the second rak‘a exceed the first for this to become a cause of the prayer being makruh?
Answer
An excess to the extent of three verses results in makruh tanzihi (“Tahtawi”, p. 193). But this applies to those short suras whose verses are roughly close to one another in shortness and length; otherwise, in the long suras, whose verses differ markedly in length and shortness, the count of letters will be taken into account.
