Reciting in the Heart Everything Other than the Qira’a and the Takbir

Question

If everything that is recited in the prayer — apart from the qira’a and the takbir, which the imam says aloud — is recited without using the tongue, only inwardly in the heart, will the prayer be valid in this way, or will some deficiency remain?

Answer

Whatever one is commanded to recite in the prayer should be recited with the tongue; one must not content oneself with a mere thought in the heart.
