Women Praying in Congregation (Tarawih of Female Huffaz)

Question

Many women are huffaz of the Qur’an. In blessed Ramadan they perform the tarawih prayer in congregation at home, exactly as men perform it in the mosque: a woman is the imam and women follow her (iqtida’). However, the way the row is formed is that the woman imam stands just slightly ahead of the row. In the house where the congregation takes place there is no participation of men whatsoever.

Answer

Praying in a congregation of women alone — such that the imam is a woman and the followers are women — is makruh tahrimi. Whether it is the five daily fard prayers or the tarawih prayer, the ruling for all is the same.
