Women’s Congregation in Tarawih and Witr
Question
I memorised the Qur’an from my brother and I want to recite [it] in tarawih. What form can this take? And whom should I make the sami‘ (the listener who corrects the reciter) when no hafiz is available — can a boy who has not reached maturity be the sami‘? Please also write how the witr will be prayed and what form it will take.
Answer
It is valid for a boy who has not reached maturity to be the sami‘, provided he has memorised [the Qur’an] and is able to prompt the imam. But you should not become an imam, lead a congregation and recite the Holy Qur’an in tarawih. Recite as much as you wish in tarawih prayed alone or in nafl prayers, and recite to the immature hafiz outside the prayer.
