Detailed ruling on a newcomer joining a prayer repeated for omitting a wajib

A prayer was repeated because a wajib had been omitted. May a newcomer join this second congregation or not? The fatwas on this issue differ; please examine the question in detail.

Answer (1) — by Mawlana Muhammad Irfan (Khalapar, Muzaffarnagar), sent to Dar al-‘Ulum for confirmation Despite searching, I have not found in the words of the mujtahids any explicit statement either on the newcomer’s participation or on his non-participation. Most likely the issue derives from whether the prayer repeated by the second act is nafl or fard.
