Responding to the adhān

Is responding to the adhān obligatory (farḍ), sunnah, wājib, or recommended (mustaḥabb)? And what interval should be kept between the adhān and the congregational prayer?

Answer

Responding to the adhān is mustaḥabb (recommended). Regarding the interval between adhān and congregational prayer: For Maghrib, no lengthy interval is needed. For other prayers, an interval of about half an hour is appropriate. On Friday, there should also be a suitable interval between the first and second adhān.
