Examination of the Du‘a After Nikah “O Allah, Unite Them as You United Yusuf and Zulaykha”
Question
Question: Here the qadis, after the nikah, also recite in the du‘a: “Allahumma allif baynahuma kama allafta bayna Yusuf wa Zulaykha ‘alayhima al-salam” (O Allah, unite the two of them as You united Yusuf and Zulaykha ﵉). Some say that these words should not be included in the du‘a, because including Hazrat Yusuf and Zulaykha ﵉ in the du‘a is not good, [since] Hazrat Yusuf ﵇ was not married to Zulaykha. Are these people correct? And is it a sin to make du‘a in this way?
Answer
In some books it is mentioned that a nikah [between them] did take place. However, in the Noble Qur’an and in the books of the Sihah, a nikah is not mentioned. In the noble hadith I have not come across the du‘a “Allahumma allif baynahuma” together with the words “kama allafta bayna Yusuf wa Zulaykha ‘alayhima al-salam.
