Details on the Verse of Prostration

Question

Both of these hadiths are narrated from Muslim and Tirmidhi; Ibn Kathir brings them in his tafsir, in the 18th and 22nd juz’. (a) Surah al-Hajj has been given excellence by two prostrations — whoever does not prostrate at them, let him not recite it at all? (b) The people of Hell are of five kinds: insignificant, despised people who have no money and no home, and those who cling to your skirts.

Answer

(a) After reciting a verse of prostration, it is recommended (mustahabb) to perform the prostration immediately. A person without wudu may recite it from memory, but cannot perform the prostration. Therefore it is preferable to recite the Qur’an with wudu, so that when the verse of prostration comes, one may perform the prostration at once.
