Examination of the Report on the Miracle of the Tree That Came with Its Roots

Question

Question: A bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I have indeed become a Muslim; show me such a miracle that my faith and certainty may become even stronger.” He ﷺ asked: “What do you want?” He said: “Let him summon such-and-such a tree to himself.” He ﷺ said: “Go and call it yourself.” He went and said: “O tree, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has called you.

Answer

This report, with some alteration, is found in Qadi ‘Iyad’s ﵀ “al-Shifa”; Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari ﵀ has given an explanation (sharh) of it. However, its being preserved with this much detail in the Sihah is not established. It is, however, found in books of miracles and merits [of the Prophet ﷺ] — in al-Suyuti’s ﵀ “al-Khasa’is al-Kubra”.
