The Forgetting of the Exact Date of Laylat al-Qadr
Question
It is well known that the Noble Prophet ﷺ was informed of the exact designation of Laylat al-Qadr. He ﷺ came out of his blessed chamber to inform the people of it. A dispute was taking place between two men; he ﷺ became occupied with settling it between them, and so much time passed amid this dispute that the exact date slipped from his blessed heart. Is this event established by hadiths, or is it merely common hearsay? If it is established by a noble hadith, in which book is it found?
Answer
This hadith is recorded in “Jam‘ al-Fawa’id”, p. 44, on the authority of Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah. The year of the event is not known. The hadith is authentic and reliable.
