Should One Pause at the End of Every Verse?

Question

Question: In the Noble Qur’an a round [end-of-]verse mark is placed everywhere; on this round mark, in one place stands [the letter] "alif", in another "mim", in a third "jim", in a fourth "sad-lam". In that case, should one stop wherever one’s heart wishes and not stop wherever it does not wish, as with [the sign] "jim"?

Answer

According to the jurists, stopping at none of these places is obligatory (wajib); these are terms [introduced] by the reciters (qurra’), and observing them is merely recommended (mustahabb), not obligatory.
