Gatherings of Qur'an Reciters and Prize Competitions

Question

A gathering of reciters (qari) has been arranged here in Delhi, at which well-known and famous reciters will attend; ministers and dignitaries will also take part. Various reciters selected to recite will have their recitation heard, and a prize will be given to them in accordance with [the quality of] their recitation. What is the ruling on participating in such a gathering?

Reciting the Noble Qur’an with a beautiful voice is emphasised in the noble hadith, and there is great glad tiding for it; the muhaddithin have explained this to mean that the heart should be filled with the greatness of the Noble Qur’an, that fear and awe should overtake [the reciter], that he should tremble from the majesty of Allah, calling to mind its warnings and glad…
